Plied Yarn is the brainchild of knitwear designer and instructor/designer Ann Weaver and Karida Collins, owner of Neighborhood Fiber Co.
Plied yarns are initially spun at the Harrisville mill in New Hampshire, hand-dyed in Baltimore, and then returned to Harrisville, where they ply two strands into one beautiful yarn. The resulting yarn is lofty, with a little "tooth."
North Ave is a woolen-spun, hand-dyed, marled yarn. Harrisville spins the fiber, and Plied Yarns hand-dyes it in Baltimore. North Ave is technically a fingering weight but can often be substituted for sport and DK. Primaries work perfectly with North Ave Twists.
